Est. reading time:

The Himalaya mountain range is awesome. The high peaks of the Himalayas almost seem to be level with an airplane cruising at 30,000 feet. At this altitude you may also be awarded a great view of the range, above the clouds.

Impressions

I was flying into Kathmandu on a plane from Bhutan. I had the fortune of having reserved a window seat on the right side of the plane, that is facing north. That left me ample opportunity to study the mountain range fairly well. The view was nothing less than awesome.

Leaving the capital of Nepal flying southeast to Delhi in India, the views from that same side were also impressive but of a lesser nature as we had left the highest mountains behind us.

Read about the Himalayas on Wikipedia.

I had spent a week in the mountain Kingdom of Bhutan (in my travelogue) and was facing a week in Nepal.

This article is the first from my visit to Nepal. I flew in from Bangkok, spent seven days in Bhutan (read the first chapter from Bhutan) and then took a flight to Nepal for another week. The overall schedule is introduced in an article called The outline of a visit to the Himalayas. These are the posts from Nepal:

  1. Inflight views of the Himalaya mountain range (THIS)
  2. Kathmandu’s Thamel district and the Garden of Dreams
  3. Kathmandu’s historic districts and temples
  4. The former city-state of Patan
  5. The beautiful town of Bhaktapur
  6. Jungle life in Chitwan

Two articles from these World Heritage Sites have also been published: Kathmandu Valley and Chitwan – in addition to a special post containing all pictures from Nepal.
