Jæren – The Bore hike

Est. reading time:

This is about the Bore hike, one of many hikes on the coast of Jæren, Norway. This is an easy hike on a sandy beach most of the way. (7 km)

Orientation

Bore – Revtangen (Klepp): At Bore we find one of the widest beaches on Jæren. The surf is great here. You will be able to go for a walk in the sand and on grass the entire distance to Revtangen, the start of Orre beach.

There is good parking at Bore but not at the other end. You might also leave your car at the Reve marina, or continue south to Friluftshuset at Orre (2.5 km longer). I made this a two-way trip. My GPS shows that I walked 6.8 km one way and 7 on the return. There are some easy parts on grass, but this is mainly a trip in the sand – which may be tiresome.

What to see

Well, this is a varied hike. Two large, sandy beaches at either end (Bore and Revesanden) with boulder beaches and grassland to walk on in between. There is a rather shabby marina at Reve, some steep grass hills rising 10-15 metres from the beach, and very few hikers on a sunny day. The hike is quite nice, but a bit boring compared to many of the other hikes on the coast of Jæren.

This time I will let my pictures and video speak for themselves.

Further reading

This article presents one of many hikes on the coast of Jæren, Norway. Get an overview here. The hikes and corresponding articles are sorted in a north to south order. The adjacent hikes are:

North: Sele (Klepp): Some say Sele Harbour is the most picturesque of all Jæren harbours, in particular because of the colourful row of boathouses. This hike includes high sand dunes, a wonderful boulder beach and the mouth of the important salmon fishing Figgjo river. (3 km)

South: Revtangen – Orre (Klepp): Great beach walk. Walk happily in the sand along the seashore one way and on the sand dunes on the rebound. This trip goes north to Revtangen, but can obviously be extended as far as you want. Have a cup of coffee at Friluftshuset and advance your learning from its permanent exhibition on the Jæren coast. (2.5 km)
